Biography
Barbara Gelcich

Barbara Gelcich Born in 1963 in Genova (Italy). She learned the craft of painting in the atelier of her father (Guido Gelcich, pupil of Oskar Kokoschka). At 18 years old she and her family left Genova to trade the sea-life with the mountain-life of the Valle d’Aosta. While living there she studied Literature in Turin and at the same time she was exposing her artworks in several places in the Valle d’Aosta. A few important expositions were:

In 1993 she moved to The Hague (Holland) were she has been living till now. She is now teaching Latin in a college in Zoetermeer. Since her departure from Italy it has been a bit quiet from an art point of view. Since two years she found her place in the artist community ‘Kunstpost Mariahoeve’ where she has her own atelier. Since then her artistry has come to life again. Her paintings are mostly landscapes, flowers, people and animals. Her paintings and drawings are mostly made with oil-paint,acrylic-paint and pastels and used on canvas and papersheets. Although she normally paints what her inspiration brings her, she also paints and draws on request. The last two summers she had the chance to specialize in paintg and drawing cows. In Aosta the battles of the cows (Batailles de Reines) are very important events and after exposing some of her paintings she quickly received a number of demands to portrait cows and paint and draw the battles.
